Rushing Will Only Slow You Down!

Yes, that's right!  Rushing will slow you down in the long run.  Let me explain.

Last week, on my way to see my horse, I was involved in a car accident.  No, it was not my fault.  I was rear ended by someone who was in a rush to get to where ever she was headed.

Long story short, I was on an exit ramp, stopped at a stop light.  I inched forward so I could see traffic better and I was bumped from behind.  Turned out the driver thought I was going and gave her vehicle the gas.  The driver didn't even look to see if I had stopped again, and that the light was red.  Her vehicle sustained more damage than mine and needed to be towed, but at least I was able to drive off.  Fortunately, there were no injuries.

Had she taken her time to look ahead and see what was happening in front of her, she would have gotten to her destination probably on time.  Because of her rush to get to point B, she was careless and was delayed.

Another incident in October, where a driver was speeding down the exit ramp, talking on the cell phone, not paying attention to her surroundings, ended up hitting and killing a construction worker in a construction zone.  All because she was in a hurry.  I don't think she arrived at work that day anytime soon.  This construction worker was my husband's best friend, whom he had known for years.

Too many accidents like this have been happening lately.  You hear it on the news all the time.

Many are in a rush these days and, therefore, not paying attention to what is going on around them.  Even when on the job, how many times have you rushed to your next appointment?  While rushing around, all that is on your mind is getting to your destination on time and you end up being careless.

I have seen many a driver pass me like I was standing still and I end up meeting them at the next stop light.  Obviously they got nowhere fast.

We need to slow down and take notice of what is going on around us.  If we are going to be late, well, just let the other party know, and not while you are driving.  We need to be mindful of others.  By slowing down, we may save a life or several lives.  One of them might even be your own.  It is not worth it.

Just remember:  More mistakes occur when rushing around because you are not directing your full attention to the matter at hand.

Ah yes, I remember those mainland driving habits and am so glad to be far removed from the madness.  That's not to say Hawaii won't get there too but right now drivers are very polite and more careful.

Hi Brigita,

Thinking back, I have had my car hit four times in my 45 years of driving, and every time is was due to someone else rushing. Good point!

I would love to be someplace where others are not in a rush.

Bob:

If everyone just slowed down, there wouldn't be as many accidents as you hear about now.

Brigita, great point, but I think I would rather be on Hawaii working with Richard.  Have a great day.  kevincavanaughonline.com

At least you were not on the way to see your car and were involved in a horse crash!

I hope you are ok.  Unfortunately, I have had that exact same thing happen to me, 3 times no less!  I started to have a complex about my own driving even though none of them were my fault.

I find the same holds true in other areas.  I always know when I start making small mistakes that I need to take a step back, slow down and stop trying to do so many things at once.  Life is already to short as it is, why would you want to rush it.  It's a good lesson we all need to remember.

Dear Brigita,

The cell phone thing is really driving me crazy! Fortunately, I was late to an appointment because I saw a woman on a cell turn against the light.

She was oblivious to what was going on!

I think if someone rear-ended my horse, the other would get a kick in the face.  Ouch!!

Marie:

That was the point I was trying to get across.  Life is short, so slow down and enjoy it before you miss out.

If you are going to talk on the phone, at least use the speaker phone or an earpiece of some sort.

Same thing happened to me about a year ago.  I was stopped at a STOP sign.  Traffic cleared and I started to go.  Guess what, I was moving too slow.  I was hit in the rear even though I was pulling away.  The driver was late for a meeting and well, that became much later.  I feel your pain.

Another point.  We need to watch ourselves in our driving from place to place.  While on the way to the office last week, I saw a car coming up behind me.  The car was moving well over the speed limit and was weaving in traffic.  (you know where this is going).  The car weaved around me and yes, Realtor signs on the doors of the car.  Now there is advertisement for you.

Ron:

Hey, I never thought of advertising myself that way!  LOL
