Words To Ponder As You Vote This Year

Once again it is the Presidential Election time.  With the finger-pointing and promises being made by the candidates, here are some words for you to ponder before deciding on which candidate to vote for:

* You cannot help the poor, by destroying the rich.

* You cannot strengthen the weak, by weakening the strong.

* You cannot bring about prosperity, by discouraging thrift.

* You cannot lift the wage earner up, by pulling the wage payer down.

* You cannot further the brotherhood of man, by inciting class hatred.

* You cannot build character and courage, by taking away men's initiative and independence.

* You cannot help men permanently, by doing for them what they could and should, do for themselves.

* You can fool some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Any idea who the author was?

It was Abraham Lincoln.

Maybe we have had too much change and it is time to go back to the "good old days" when everyone took responsibility for their actions.  Would you want the government run all aspects of your life?  You are the only one that knows what is good for you, not any one else.

So, think about the words of Abraham Lincoln and then make a choice.  The future is in our hands.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices makes 545 human beings out of the 300 million who are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.  Lets just start over.

I would only  hope that our next president is as wise and insightful as president Lincoln was. thanks for the words of wisdom!

Wait a minute now, you are just being racist and hateful!  Why are you trying to destroy the American dream by quoting people like that Lincoln fellow!

Words like that could cause New Orleans be become non-existent!  As Well As, a lot of big cities!

And being from PA, I would think that you would submit to the news (liberal talking heads) media and turn the other cheek (no pun intented).

Why are you people always trying to hold the little man down!

LOL, just kidding!

I would have loved to be alive during Honest Abe's days!  Maybe not, these may be more exciting, but I do believe that if the politicians modeled their careers and governing attitudes after some of the past leaders, we would ALL (everyone) be better off!

We need someone like President Lincoln in office again.  His wisdom is much needed.

Lincoln had a lot of wisdom.  We need wisdom in the office of president.

LOL  You had me going there at first.  They say history repeats itself.  I hope it's within my lifetime.

Thanks for the reminder.....great minds, and great ideas, really are timeless. President Lincoln would probably have a tough time being elected today, with Chris Matthews bringing up that "axe incident" with that defenseless cherry tree!

I agree with you 100%.

President Lincoln would probably be torn apart in today's society.  We need more like him as President and in the government.

Great Post, Brigita, we need to get back to the foundation of this country, things have gotten too out of control.

I think we need someone more like Teddy Roosevelt...  At least someone with the attitude he had.  Walk softly and carry a big stick.

We're starting to sound like our grandparents: "Ah, the good ol' days!"

I just hope that someday when we look back, we can say that these days are the good old days......But with all the problems we're facing, it might not be so easy. Thankfully the children are innocent and most don't realize these issues. They are the ones who will consider today the "good old days" sometime in their future.

I bet that our grandparents had the same thinking back when they were our age.    You think we'll ever hear anyone say " Things are better now than in the old days"?
