Dedication to Our Veterans

I'm sure you all know that today, November 11th, is Veterans Day.  Yes, I know for many that means a day off from work tomorrow, and going to the many sales to get a head start on Christmas shopping.  We should all take the true meaning of Veterans Day and remember why we celebrate it.

The reason Veterans Day was created was so that all of us remember those that have given their lives for us and our freedom in the wars.  We should also remember the the Veterans that are still alive.  They have suffered and fought for us so that we may have what we have now.

Don't forget those servicemen and women that are currently fighting overseas now.  They have given up their normal lives to go overseas and fight for the freedoms.

So, don't treat Veterans Day as another day off from work.  Let's pause a while in our busy schedules and remember the fallen heroes of war.  If you know anyone that is currently in the service, thank them for what they are doing.  Even if you don't know any servicemen or women, thank them in any way you can.  Let's show them that we care.  They truly need our support to keep themselves going.

Brigita..this is a great post! Our veterans do not get the respect they deserve....it annoys me when people think Memorial day is a holiday for picnics etc and do not take a second to honor what the day is really for....Same with Veterans day...they are the reason for your day off...show some respect.

Brigita,

Thanks for remembering what veterans have done for our country.  I am a retired Navy Chief with 20 years of honarable service.  When I look back on my career I generally think about why I did it.  The answer was and is quite simply, I love this country and what it stands for.  I want my children and grandchildren to be able to have the opportunity for choices.  I traveled a lot of places and I know we have a good thing going here in the United States.

I add my thanks to the many men and women who find themselves in strange lands away from their families.  Thank you for "keeping watch".

Hi, Guy!

That is why I decided to write this post, as a reminder to everyone why we have this day.  All our servicemen and women and Veterans deserve this recognition.  Without them, we would not have our freedom.  They are the real heroes.

Karen:

I think we all need to be reminded sometimes.  We should all be thankful that we have such brave men and women that are willing to sacrifice their lives for others and freedom.  Let's all honor these brave people.
