A Heartwarming Story for the Holidays

Here's a heartwarming story that I received from my son and thought I would share it with everyone for the Holidays.  It did not happen to him, but it is worth sharing.

THE DOLL AND A WHITE ROSE

I hurried into the local department store to grab some last minute Christmas gifts.  I looked at all the people and grumbled to myself. I would be in here forever and I just had so much to do.  Christmas was beginning to become such a drag.  I kind of wished that I could just sleep through Christmas. but I hurried the best I could through all the people to the toy department.  Once again I kind of mumbled to myself at the prices of all these toys, and wondered if the grandkids would even play with them.  I found myself in the doll aisle.  Out of the corner of my eye I saw a little boy, about 5, holding a lovely doll.  He kept touching her hair and he held her so gently.  I could not seem to help myself.  I just kept looking over at the little boy and wondered who the doll was for.  I watched him turn to a woman, and he called his aunt by name and said, "Are you sure I don't have enough money?"  She replied a bit impatiently, "You know that you don't have enough money for it."  The aunt told the little boy not to go anywhere, that she had to go get some other things and would be back in a few minutes.  And then she left the aisle.

The boy continued to hold the doll.  After a bit I asked the boy who the doll was for.  He said, "It is the doll my sister wanted so badly for Christmas.  She just knew that Santa would bring it."  I told him that maybe Santa was going to bring it.  He said, "No, Santa can't go where my sister is.  I have to give the doll to my Mamma to take to her."  I asked him where his sister was.  He looked at me with the saddest eyes and said, "She has gone to be with Jesus.  My Daddy says that Mama is going to have to go to be with her."  My heart nearly stopped beating.  Then the boy looked at me again and said, "I told my Daddy to tell Mama not to go yet.  I told him to tell her to wait till I got back from the store."  Then he asked me if I wanted to see his picture.  I told him I would love to.  He pulled out some pictures he had taken at the front of the store.  He said "I want my Mamma to take this with her so she don't ever forget me.  I love my Mama so very much and I wish she did not have to leave me.  But Daddy says she will need to be with my sister."

I saw that the little boy had lowered his head and had grown so very quiet.  While he was not looking, I reached into my purse and pulled out a handful of bills.  I asked the little boy, "Shall we count that money one more time?"  He grew excited and said "Yes, I just know it has to be enough."  So I slipped my money in with his, and we began to count it.  Of course it was plenty for the doll.  He softly said, "Thank you, Jesus, for giving me enough money."

Then the boy said "I just asked Jesus to give me enough money to buy this doll, so Mama can take it with her, to give to my sister.  And He heard my prayer.  I wanted to ask Him for enough to buy my Mama a white rose, but I didn't ask Him, but He gave me enough to buy the doll and a rose for my Mama.  She loves white roses so very, very much."

In a few minutes the aunt came back, and I wheeled my cart away.  I could not keep from thinking about the little boy, as I finished my shopping in a totally different spirit than when I had started.  And I kept remembering a story I had seen in the newspaper several days earlier, about a drunk driver hitting a car and killing a little girl and the Mother was in very serious condition.  The family was deciding on whether to remove the life support.  Now surely this little boy did not belong with that story.

Two days later, I read in the paper where the family had disconnected the life support and the young woman had died.  I could not forget the little boy, and just kept wondering if the two were somehow connected.  Later that day, I could not help myself and I went out and bought some white roses and took them to the funeral home, where the young woman was.  And there she was, holding a lovely white rose, the beautiful doll, and the picture of the little boy in the store.  I left there in tears, my life changed forever.  The love that little boy had for his little sister and his mother was overwhelming.  And in a split second a drunk driver had ripped the life of that little boy to pieces.

"Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."

An Explanation of Life (Today's Funny)

On the very first day, God created the cow.  He said to the cow,  "Today I have created you!  As a cow, you must go to the field with the farmer all day long.  You will work all day under the sun!  I will give you a life span of 50 years."

The cow objected,  "What?  This kind of tough life you want me to live for 50 years?  Let me have 20 years, and the 30 years I'll give back to you."  So God agreed.

On the second day, God created the dog.  God said to the dog,  "What you are supposed to do is to sit all day by the door of your house.  Any people that come in, you will have to bark at them!  I'll give a life span of 20 years."

The dog objected,  "What? All day long to sit by the door?  No way!  I give you back my other 10 years of life!"  So God agreed.

On the third day, God created the monkey.  He said to the monkey,  "Monkeys have to entertain people. You've got to make them laugh and do monkey tricks.  I'll give you 20 years life span."

The monkey objected.  "What? Make them laugh?  Do monkey faces and tricks?  Ten years will do, and the other 10 years I'll give you back."  So God agreed.

On the fourth day, God created man and said to him,  "Your job is to sleep, eat, and play.  You will enjoy very much in your life.  All you need to do is to enjoy and do nothing.  This kind of life, I'll give you a 20 year life span."

The man objected.  "What?  Such a good life!  Eat, play, sleep, do nothing?  Enjoy the best and you expect me to live only for 20 years?  No way, man!.... Why don't we make a deal?  Since the cow gave you back 30 years, and the dog gave you back 10 years and the monkey gave you back 10 years, I will take them from you!  That makes my life span 70 years, right?"  So God agreed.

AND THAT'S WHY....

In our first 20 years, we eat, sleep, play, enjoy the best and do nothing much.  For the next 30 years, we work all day long, suffer and get to support the family.  For the next 10 years, we entertain our grandchildren by making monkey faces and monkey tricks.  And for the last 10 years, we stay at home, sit by the front door and bark at people!

The Christmas Spectacular 2008

The Christmas season in known for giving.  Here is an opportunity for all who enjoy the songs and artists from the 60's to enjoy the benefit concert.

The Camelot for Children's Christmas Spectacular is one of the Lehigh Valley's longest running holiday benefit concerts and will be held this Saturday, December 13th at 7PM.  It will be held at Lehigh University's Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, PA.

In its 22nd year, it is an oldies extravaganza featuring hitmakers from the 60's, including Peter Noone and the Herman's Hermits ("There's a Kind of Hush", I'm Into Something Good", "Henry the VII", "Mrs. Brown"), Sonny Geraci of the Outsiders and Climax ("Time Won't Let Me", "Precious and Few"), and Dennis Tufano of the Buckinghams ("Kind of a Drag", "Don't You Care", "Susan", "Hey Baby They're Playing Our Song").

The Christmas Spectacular is Camelot for Children's largest fundraiser.  The raised funds helps Camelot serve about 200 Lehigh Valley families with special needs children.

In 2002 and 2003, they tried going with classic rock, bringing in acts like Little River Band, Gary 'U.S.' Bonds and America, but that was a bomb.  Not as many tickets were sold for these as for the oldies.  So, the oldies were brought back and it was once again a sell out.

Tickets are $25, $37.50, $47.50, $50 and $75.  Anyone that enjoys the music from the oldies era, this would be a great time to see and hear the artists from the era and contribute to a good cause at the same time.
